How Yoga Can Help Relieve Your Back Pain

Do you lack the ability to touch your toes? Does your low back pain make it impossible to ride in a car for long periods of time?  Well, along with Chiropractic, stretching is your best defense against low back pain. Chiropractic and Yoga go hand in hand when it comes to repair and maintenance of the back.
For people with lower back pain, stretching is very important. For example, stretching the hamstring muscles helps expand the motion in the pelvis, which helps decrease stress across the lower back muscles.  Also, rolling the IT band muscle is very beneficial to those with low back pain. Lengethening the IT band will in turn relieve a lot of pressure on the low back. Yoga also increases blood flow, which allows nutrients to flow in, while the toxins flow out.

Yoga poses are meant to train the body to be healthy and supple. Consistent practice and application will result in improved posture, and an increased sense of balance, putting the head, shoulders and pelvis in proper alignment. Yoga helps stretch and strengthens both sides of the body equally. Proper body alignment and good posture helps maintain the natural curvature of the spine. Doing so is an important part of reducing or avoiding lower back pain.

Yoga also helps people concentrate their energy on breathing and maintaining posture. The methodical breathing typically involved in Yoga increases oxygen flow to the brain, which sets a rhythm within the body and mind. This action coupled with the poses is said to dissipate stress and anxiety, therefore, relieving back pain that could be caused by emotional and psychological factors.
We all could use a breather in our daily lives. Taking time to even do a few poses within your day could benefit you more than you know!
